Two-dimensional echocardiographic assessment of mitral stenosis.

چکیده
A real-time, phased-array, two-dimensional echocardiography system was used to assess mitral valve motion in 30 catheterized patients with pure mitral stenosis. Suitable images for analysis of mitral valve motion were obtained in 25 patients. The valve leaflets were most thickened and immobile at the leaflet tips while maximum mobility was at the leaflet body. Diastolic movement of anterior mitral leaflet toward the septum pulled the posterior mitral leaflet mid-portion inferiorly. Systolic bulging of the mid-portion of the anterior mitral leaflet into the left atrium was seen in 40% (10 of 25). Movement of the anterior mitral leaflet in diastole is primarily due to movement of the whole mitral apparatus in patients with mitral stenosis. The anterior mitral leaflet E to F slopes did not correlate (r=0.38) with the mitral valve area determined at catheterization. Planimetry of the mitral valve area directly from the videotape images compared favorably to the valve area determined at catheterization (r=0.95). Thus, mitral valve area determined by this technique is an accurate noninvasive method for assessing the severity of mitral stenosis.¿

Effect of position on echocardiographic diagnosis of mitral valve prolapse
Echocardiography has been accepted as the diagnostic modality of choice for mitral valve prolapse (MVP). The determine the effect of position on echocardiographic diagnosis of MVP, we examined 693 consecutive patients referred to the echocardiography laboratory because of suspected MVP. First, patients were examined using the usual standard M-Mode echocardiography( left parasternal third or fou...

Rheumatic heart disease is a serious health problem in developing countries. The present study was conducted to evaluate clinical and echocardiographic findings of Mitral stenosis and their relationship with patients functional classes. We studied records of 400 patients with symptomatic mitral stenosis (71% female, mostly in 20s or 30s and 54% function class II) treated in two hospitals in Teh...

Background: Percutaneous Transeptal Mitral Commisurotomy (PTMC) has been used in treating mitral stenosis with variable success, its main complication being mitral incompetence. There is a need to define the subgroup of the patients who benefit mostly from the procedure. Methods: We studied 110 patients (age 17 to 60 years mean 33.2) with mitral stenosis. PTMC was performed though femoral vein....
متن کاملDetection of deterioration or infection of homograft and porcine xenograft bioprosthetic valves in mitral and aortic positions by two-dimensional echocardiographic examination.
Results of two-dimensional echocardiographic examinations were compared with angiographic, hemodynamic and surgical results in 44 patients with bioprosthetic valves in mitral and aortic positions who were undergoing elective or urgent reinvestigation 24 to 87 months (mean 34) after implantation. In these patients, there were 18 homograft aortic valves in the aortic position, 9 stent-mounted hom...

Likewise these findings were unaltered by administration of propranolol in 12 patients who were studied both while th...
